EPNET challenge Day 3 STALL

Since we only have paddocks I needed to think of a place to visit quick. I was planning on visiting a friend in Gilroy around noon who has a beautiful barn. I envisioned having one of her horses standing in the stall with her head peaking over the door. This was supposed to happen after Nigel and I planned to go on our first ride together on our own horses. Both were in rehab and are now in training for endurance next year. We had a perfect morning of weather and “happy to be on the trail” horses. My friend wasn’t home and we were on our way to Carmel for a doggie portrait session. Oh no, while driving I realized we would not be home until dark. So after dropping off a portrait display for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Monterey, I googled local barns in Carmel. Score! I found one right off Highway 1 and it was spectacular. They had curtains on either end of the barns, video cameras, massive warmbloods everywhere, decorated walls and warm glowing skylights. While I have some more intense close ups, I decided to portray this outdoor barn with white wooden stall doors, a treasure chest beside each door and a cute horse looking at me and I love all the fanciness and perfection. While there, I dropped a few cards and brochures on their community board. Fingers crossed.

Diggidy Dog in Carmel, CA with Golden Gate Lab Rescue

Franklin Keene was one lucky chocolate lab. Not only was he rescued by very loving parents, but he got to have his portrait session at the super dog store “Diggidy Dog” in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Check out this fantastic boutique. http://www.diggidydogcarmel.com/

Here he is hanging out with the yummy bones and behaving himself extremely well. See that smile on his face.

Sam, the Firedog of Carmel-by-the-Sea in honor of all Firefighters

Here is another contender for the Golden Gate Lab Rescue 2011 calendar. Sam, is owned by Mitch who works for Carmel-by-the-Sea Fire Department. He is the biggest lab I have ever seen and extremely friendly and mellow. He was a very professional model and very patient while we had him pose in front of a Fire truck. Best of luck Sam.

Last Friday night on June 11, I drove home from the Horse Expo in Sacramento and picking up Finn at UC Davis. I saw a huge fire on Mt. Diablo and near Walnut Creek. There were 3 planes flying overhead dropping water. All I could think about was how dangerous those Firefighters jobs are and hoping they don’t have a busy summer this year…or ever. On Sunday, I drove down Highway 17 towards Santa Cruz and saw a helicopter with the rope hanging down hovering and several trucks out. They were practicing and preparing themselves. In my neighborhood, several firefighters come to practice in the park. You can see the dedication in their faces and it makes me smile that they are so willing to protect us. I say “Thank you” for being there for us and risking your lives.

Gracie and her dad at Carmel-by-the-Sea

Gracie is a lovely chocolate lab who was adopted through the Golden Gate Lab Rescue. She is so lucky as she is older, a little gray, but extremely special as she loves her parents who adopted her last year and has an obsession with her orange ball. Gracie gets to visit the beach everyday too without having to wear a leash and run, run, run. She is being nominated to enter the GG Lab Rescue’s 2011 Calendar which will raise funds for the organization. If you have a moment, please leave a comment and share your favorite image of Gracie. Dad will not be in the contest but I asked him to pose with Gracie for me since he is a very handsome and photogenic men who loves this special dog.
